Prevent system from going into idle when media is playing

So the problem i am having is i just setup ambient lighting around my tv and am trying to make the lights turn off when my monitor sleeps. the “disable lighting during idle” setting is still forcing my lights to turn off after “X” amount of time you set. i would like an option to prevent system from going to idle when media or audio is playing. I think its an option a lot of people would benefit from as i see post of reddit about people trying to do the same thing as me.

Try changing your power settings perhaps? This sounds like an issue more with Windows settings.

what power setting would I change?

the setting in signalrgb to “Disable lighting during idle” just has you choose how long until it will power off the LEDS. That only detects mouse and keyboard movement, not an audio signal or media playing. Signal already is detecting audio and recording my screen for the effects, so i feel this should be easily implemented.

after re reading my post I was saying “system” but actually meaning my lights. my system is playing media and the lights will turn off around my screen. i want them to stay on when media is playing but turn off when theres nothing playing.

Ahhh - Have you tried an effect that leverages audio input, such as RGBarz?

yes, i have tried 3 audio visualizers now and 2 different screen ambience effects and they all have the same problem. they turn off the lights when media is playing after “x” amount of time.

I’d send in a bug report using the bug icon in the app (upper-right corner) or through this link so that the support team can follow up. Sounds odd as I use RGBarz for example and the effect will play as long as my system is running.

If I stop playing media, there’s the base level of lighting as the effect is still playing, but the visualizer bars don’t move.

do you also use this setting when using that effect? when I turn this off it works fine, it’s just annoying having to turn this off every time.

Yes, but I’ve set the idle timer to 20 minutes and generally am not away from my computer while it’s playing audio for more than a few minutes. Sounds like you either should turn this slider off, or increase the amount of time it takes for the system to be considered idle.

ok, but changing how long until it turns off still doesn’t solve my problem… ex. if I set it to 20 minutes, if I watch a 25-minute video. the light will still shut off before the video/audio is finished playing. so that will not do anything.

Then set the timer to 30 minutes, or interact with the system before the video finishes? You could also turn off the slider. Overall, it appears that things are working as expected.

and what if I watch a 3-hour movie? set the timer to 3 hours? I’m not going to change settings every time I use my computer. you would think when my computer playing a video/playing media it wouldn’t be seen as idle…….

Have you tried adjusting your PCs power options so that the Idle behavior is defined differently?

not sure what i would change as its based on a time limit set in signalrgb.
